3 reasons why you should love Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis).

  1. It is one of the most useful remedies for the mucous membranes; “King of the mucous membranes”. Goldenseal is a mucous membrane trophorestorative; it is effective in catarrhal conditions.
  2. It has a wide range of medicinal uses. Goldenseal is anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial; it can be used for all kinds of inflammations and infections. It is also a hepatic and an astringent, and it can be used for dyspepsia with hepatic symptoms.
  3. It is considered an endangered plant species due to overharvesting and habitat destruction. It is quite expensive to buy; it will cost you some $$$, but it is well worth it. Luckily, Goldenseal can be substituted with Oregon Grape (Berberis aquifolium) since both plants have isoquinoline alkaloids which are one of the major constituents.
